Burgess indicted on child rape charges
A Cocke County Grand Jury meeting a second day on Tuesday, indicted a woman on sexual assault charges. Theresa Diane Burgess, 40, Boomerang Way, Newport, was charged in April, 2009 with the rape of a nine year-old boy. Burgess had been charged with a similar offense in March, 2005, but was found not to be competent to stand trial. That charge is still pending. The boy reportedly was injured in the second incident and required hospital treatment. Ralph Campbell, 45, Clevenger Cut-Off Road, Newport is charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly knowingly failed to provide food, water, care and shelter to animals at his home. Robbie Lee Evans, 30, Tree Road, Cosby, is charged with the aggravated assault of Larry Gunter with a gun, in November, 2009. All of those indicted will be arraigned in Cocke County Circuit Court on March 22.
