New Market pursuit lands two men in jail
Two men face charges following a pursuit on Highway 11E, which began in New Market and ended with a crash in Knox County, Wednesday evening. New Market Chief of Police Raymond Raper said he clocked a 1996 Ford Ranger pickup at 67 miles per hour in a 45 mile zone at 11:20pm. The chief attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle fled westbound. At Magnolia Avenue near Chilhowee Park in Knoxville, the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree. Chief Raper said the driver, Donald Moore, 53, Ross Road, Knoxville, jumped from his truck and attempted to flee on foot. He was tackled a short distance away, taken to the ground and handcuffed. "He now faces charges of felony evading arrest, criminal impersonation, DUI, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and driving on a suspended license," the chief said. A passenger, Carl Estep, 45, Roane Road, Jefferson City, is charged with public intoxication. Neither occupant of the pickup was injured, however Chief Raper said both have criminal histories.
