Home invasion and robbery investigated
Newport police Thursday released details of an alleged home invasion and aggravated robbery incident at a city home Tuesday morning. Diana Doud and Terry Templin, South Cecil Street, told Newport Patrol Officer Joshua Veridal that the incident occurred in the home they share, at about 12:30am. Templin said he was asleep on a couch when the two subjects opened the door and entered the home. He was struck over the head by a white male who said, "give me your money, give me your pills and don't look at me." Police say Templin sustained a bruise to his cheek when he was struck. Doud said she was in a rear bedroom with her nearly four year-old son, when she heard the men outside her room. The woman was preparing to call 911 when the black male kicked open her bedroom door, knocking her to the floor. She says she was kicked in the side, three or four times by the intruder. The man then brandished a small handgun, put the weapon to the head of Ms. Doud and asked, "Did you call 911?" She told the man that she had not. She says the man then put the gun to her head, wrapped his left arm around her neck and walked her into the living room. The woman says she was ordered to tell Templin to "tell us where the pills and money are." The couple told the intruders they had no money or pills in the home. The white male then hit Templin on the face, and the black male asked,"You wanna die?" Ms. Doud said the intruder with the gun again put it to her head and forced her to her bedroom where the contents of her purse were dumped out and the male took eight pills that he found. The intruders eventually left with two packs of cigarettes and two cell phones. Police say they recovered a black glove and a cigarette which had been left behind by the robbers. The white male is described as five feet eight inches to five feet ten inches tall, average build, with a black and white checkered hoodie, blue jeans and a light blue bandanna. The black male was of similar height, muscular build, wearing a black hooded zip-up sweatshirt, black pants, black shoes and a light blue bandana over his face.
