Lakeway Central Volunteer Fire to get funding assistance
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded $980,691 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program to local fire departments and emergency responders in the state of Tennessee. Lakeway Central Volunteer Fire Department is to receive $61,926, which will be used for operations and safety training. “When it’s your home that catches fire, you become the first responder,” said FEMA Regional Administrator Phil May. “That’s why one of the focuses of the AFG grant program is to educate the public on both fire prevention and safety. When our citizens know what do in a fire, they reduce the danger to themselves and to firefighters.” The Department of Homeland Security’s Fire Prevention and Safety Grants (FP&S) grants support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards. The primary goal is to target high-risk populations and mitigate high incidences of death and injury. Examples of the types of projects supported by FP&S include fire prevention and public safety education campaigns, juvenile firesetter interventions, media campaigns, and arson prevention and awareness programs.
